# Google rating or review count not updating

New reviews are on the profile but the star rating or the number beside it has not moved. Google's own answer is that the score lags.

## Quick answer

Google says the review score is the average of all ratings published on Google for that place, and that after someone leaves a new review it may take up to two weeks to get an updated score. A count that has not moved is usually that wait rather than a missing review.

## Check this first

- [ ] Open your profile signed out and count the reviews actually listed there.
- [ ] Check the date of the newest review you can see.
- [ ] Check whether the review you are waiting on is published at all, rather than written and still pending.

## Causes

### The score has not caught up yet

- Status: Check first - Usually resolves itself. Check, then wait.
- Google says that after someone leaves a new review, it may take up to two weeks to get an updated review score.
- Fix: Wait. Two weeks is Google's own figure, and nothing on the profile makes it faster.

### The review itself is still being checked

- Status: Check first - Usually resolves itself. Check, then wait.
- Google says reviews are checked to make sure they comply with its policies, and that in some cases this can take a few days before a review appears.
- Fix: Wait a few days. An unpublished review is not in the average yet, because the score only counts ratings published on Google.

### You recently merged two profiles

- Status: Check first - Usually resolves itself. Check, then wait.
- Google says that after a merge it might take a few days for reviews from both profiles to display on Search and Maps.
- Fix: Wait a few days after the merge before counting again.

### Reviews are not available for your category or region

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- Google says reviews are available only in certain countries or regions and for certain business categories.
- Fix: Check your primary category. Where reviews are not offered there is no rating to update.

### A review was removed, so the average moved

- Status: Can’t be fixed - The platform’s rules say no. We say so plainly.
- The score is the average of all ratings published on Google for that place, and Google says reviews removed for policy violations will not be restored. A removed review leaves the average.
- Fix: Nothing to do. Make sure review requests never offer incentives or filter by rating, which is what usually causes a removal.

Checked 2026-10-02.

A customer has left a review, you can see it on the profile, and the star rating or the number beside it has not moved. Same score, same count, sitting there.

Most of the time that is the wait rather than a missing review. Google says the score is the average of all ratings published on Google for that place, and that after someone leaves a new review it may take up to two weeks to get an updated score. Nothing on the profile makes that faster.

Not always, though. The checklist below rules out the quick explanations, and the causes after it are sorted by who can act: you, Google, or nobody.

## Questions people ask

### How long does a new review take to change my rating?

Google says it may take up to two weeks to get an updated review score after someone leaves a new review.

### Why does my review count not match the number of reviews I can see?

The score and the count follow published reviews. Anything still being checked, or since removed, is not in them.

### How is the star rating worked out?

Google says the review score is the average of all ratings published on Google for that place or business.

### Can I make the rating update faster?

No. There is nothing on the profile that changes the timing; the two-week figure is Google's.
