# Reviews meant for a different business

A review on your profile describes somewhere else. It is a reporting job, not an editing job — you cannot remove it yourself.

## Quick answer

You cannot delete a review on your own profile. A review about a different business is off-topic under Google's content policy, which is the ground to report it on; Google says evaluation typically takes several days.

## Check this first

- [ ] Read it again for anything that could be about you — a wrong name is weaker ground than a wrong trade.
- [ ] Check whether your profile was recently merged with another, which is one way reviews land in the wrong place.
- [ ] Check whether a similarly named business nearby is the one being described.

## Causes

### It is about somewhere else entirely

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- Google's content policy bars off-topic content: general commentary that is not about the place.
- Fix: Report it as off-topic. That is the policy it breaches, and reporting it on the right ground matters.

### Two profiles were merged that should not have been

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- Google says that when two profiles are merged, their reviews are combined, and that to appeal the duplicate status both businesses must be eligible and distinct from one another.
- Fix: Contact support to appeal the duplicate status rather than reporting the reviews one by one.

### The customer reviewed the wrong listing

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- There is no owner-side edit for this: Google's only documented route for a review a business objects to is to flag it for a policy breach.
- Fix: Report it as off-topic, and reply publicly saying, without blame, that the visit described is not one of yours.

### It is actually about you, and you disagree with it

- Status: Can’t be fixed - The platform’s rules say no. We say so plainly.
- Google's possible outcomes include “Report reviewed – no policy violation: The review was evaluated and no policy violation was found”.
- Fix: Nothing to report. Reply to it instead.

## Reporting a review that is not about your business

1. Go to your Business Profile
2. Select Read reviews
3. Next to the review that you'd like to flag, select Report
4. Select the reason to flag the review
5. Select Send report

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days, and that a report shows as “Decision pending” in the Reviews management tool until it has been evaluated.

Checked 2026-10-02.

There are reviews on your profile describing a different business. The wrong name, the wrong trade, somebody else's visit.

You cannot delete a review on your own profile. What you can do is report it: a review about somewhere else is off-topic under Google's content policy, and that is the ground to report it on rather than calling it false. Google says evaluation typically takes several days.

The checklist below is about being sure before you report, because a report on the wrong ground is a wasted one. The causes after it are sorted by who can act — and one of them, a merge that should not have happened, needs a different route altogether.

## Questions people ask

### Can I delete a review from my own profile?

No. Reporting it for a policy breach is the only documented route.

### Which reason should I pick when reporting it?

Off-topic. A review about a different business is not about your place, which is exactly what that policy covers.

### Should I reply to a review meant for someone else?

Yes, briefly and without blame. Everyone who reads the review reads the reply, and it is the only part you control.
