# Reviews on a duplicate Google listing

Your reviews are split across two profiles for the same business, or stuck on the one you do not manage. Merging is the route, with one thing you lose.

## Quick answer

Two profiles for the same business can be merged, and Google says that when two profiles are merged their reviews are combined — but replies to reviews may be lost. A duplicate you created yourself can simply be removed.

## Check this first

- [ ] Search the business name on Google Maps signed out and count how many profiles come back.
- [ ] Check which profile you actually manage, and whether the other is verified.
- [ ] Save a copy of any replies you have written, because a merge can lose them.

## Causes

### You created the second profile by mistake

- Status: Fixable - You can sort this yourself.
- Google says that if you created a duplicate profile by mistake, you can remove it without affecting your verified listing, and warns that all content and linked managers will be removed, so you should make sure to remove the correct profile.
- Fix: Remove the duplicate you created — after checking twice which one it is.

### A merge is still settling

- Status: Check first - Usually resolves itself. Check, then wait.
- Google says that if you recently merged Business Profiles, it might take a few days for reviews from both profiles to display on Search and Maps.
- Fix: Wait a few days after the merge before chasing it.

### Two profiles exist and both need to stay until they are merged

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- Google says that to request a merge when two or more Business Profiles for the same business exist on Maps, you report a suggestion on Google Maps, and that all merge requests are subject to review.
- Fix: Report a suggestion on Google Maps to request the merge, then wait for the review.

### Google marked two separate businesses as duplicates

- Status: Platform’s call - Only the platform can change it. Report or appeal.
- Google says that to appeal the duplicate status both businesses must be eligible and distinct from one another, and that two or more eligible businesses at the same address need distinct names and clearly visible differences in signage.
- Fix: Contact support to appeal the duplicate status, with photos of the signage if you share an address.

### The merge went through and your replies vanished

- Status: Can’t be fixed - The platform’s rules say no. We say so plainly.
- Google says that when two profiles are merged, their reviews are combined, but replies to reviews may be lost.
- Fix: The reviews are safe; the replies are not. Re-write the replies that mattered, from your saved copy.

Checked 2026-10-02.

You search your own business and it comes back twice: two profiles, two sets of reviews, neither of them complete.

Two profiles for the same business can be merged, and Google says that when they are, their reviews are combined — though replies to reviews may be lost. If you created the second one yourself, you can simply remove it, and that is the quickest version of this problem.

The checklist below works out which version you have. Save your replies before you do anything: they are the part a merge can cost you. The causes after it are sorted by who can act.

### Can I delete a duplicate listing myself?

If you created it, yes. Google says you can remove it without affecting your verified listing — but all its content and linked managers go with it.

### How long does a merge take?

Google says all merge requests are subject to review, and that after a merge it might take a few days for reviews from both profiles to display.

### Two separate shops of mine were merged. What now?

Appeal the duplicate status. Google requires both to be distinct, with different names and clearly visible differences in signage if they share an address.
